The thesis presents a brief introduction about the macrocyclic molecules synthesized by the chemist in the last several decades. Chapter 1 of the thesis gives a specialized survey of the macrocycles, known in the literature, that are based on polyaza and polyamide type linkages. In addition to this, how the well known synthetic routes can be useful in preparing the amide and ester based macrocycles is also shown by practicing some of these methods in the synthesis of molecules reported in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 of the thesis gives an account of the less explored area of inorganic and organic-inorganic hybrid macrocycles. Particular focus has been the phospha(III)zane based macrocycles, the synthetic methodologies applicable for such systems and the macrocycles prepared during the course of this thesis.en_US
